Prerequisites

Install this patch on the following version of MAILsweeper for SMTP only:

You must log on with the Administrator account that originally installed MAILsweeper for SMTP.


Warnings:
  • Problems will occur if you attempt to install this update on any other version of MAILsweeper for SMTP.

    Before installing this patch, ensure that you currently have on your system the correct prerequisite version of the product listed above and the specified version of the program file to be updated for this patch. For details, see Checking the version of MAILsweeper and Checking the version of a file.

  • In the event that you need to remove this patch and revert to the previously installed version of MAILsweeper for SMTP refer to Removing the patch.

Checking the version number of MAILsweeper for SMTP

To check the version number of MAILsweeper for SMTP:

  1. Open the MAILsweeper Console.
  2. Expand the MAILsweeper Policy snap-in and select the MAILsweeper for SMTP folder. The Getting Started Task Pad is displayed in the details pane.
  3. Click the About link in the Task Pad. The About MAILsweeper dialog box is displayed.
  4. View the Component Version Information for the MAILsweeper for SMTP entry.

Checking the version of a file

To check which version of a file you currently have installed on your system:

  1. Navigate to the MAILsweeper for SMTP program folder (by default, C:\Program Files\MAILsweeper for SMTP\Program).
  2. Right-click the filename and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Version tab, and view the value in File version.

Component update

To verify your patch installation, you will need to check the version number of installed program file.

Installing the patch

Before installing this patch, ensure that you have read the Prerequisites section of this ReadMe.


Note: If you are running a distributed deployment of MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must install the patch on each machine in the cluster.

To install the MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3_13 (Technology Update Version 1.4_12) patch:

  1. Stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services.
  2. Close the MAILsweeper Console and any other programs running in MMC consoles, such as Performance Monitor.
  3. Ensure that the Windows Event Viewer is not running.
  4. Rename the file fml14.dll to fml14.dll.old.
  5. Copy the updated program file fml14.dll supplied with this patch into the MAILsweeper Program folder.
  6. Check the version number of this program file to ensure that the version number matches that listed in Component update.
  7. Double click the Tech14_12.reg file to apply the product version number change.
  8. Open the MAILsweeper Console.
  9. Start the MAILsweeper for SMTP Receiver, Security, and Delivery services.

Removing the patch

If you experience problems after installing MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3_13 (Technology Update Version 1.4_12), you can remove the patch. You are recommended to stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services before removing the patch. Please note that no messages can be processed during the patch removal.


Note: If you are running a distributed deployment of MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must remove the patch from each machine in the cluster.

To remove the MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3_13 (Technology Update Version 1.4_12) patch:

  1. Stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services.
  2. Close the MAILsweeper Console and any other programs running in MMC consoles, such as Performance Monitor.
  3. Ensure that the Windows Event Viewer is not running.
  4. Remove the new file fml14.dll from the program folder.
  5. Rename the original file fml14.dll.old back to fml14.dll.
  6. Open the MAILsweeper Console.
