Prerequisites

Install this patch on one of the following versions of MAILsweeper for SMTP only:

You must log on with the Administrator account that originally installed MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3.13.

Checking the version number of MAILsweeper for SMTP

To check the version number of MAILsweeper for SMTP:

  1. Open the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console.
  2. Expand the MAILsweeper for SMTP Policy snap-in and select the MAILsweeper for SMTP folder. The Getting Started Task Pad is displayed in the details pane.
  3. Click the About link in the Task Pad. The About MAILsweeper for SMTPdialog box is displayed.
  4. View the Component Version Information for the MAILsweeper for SMTP entry.

Checking the version of a file

To check which version of a file you currently have installed on your system:

  1. Navigate to the MAILsweeper program folder (by default, C:\Program Files\MAILsweeper for SMTP\Program).
  2. Right-click the filename and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Version tab, and view the value in File version.

Component updates

To verify your patch installation, you will need to check the version number of installed program files.

If you need to remove this patch, you will also need the version number of the currently installed files.

Installing the patch

Before installing this patch, ensure that you have read the Prerequisites section of this ReadMe.


Note: If you are running a distributed deployment of MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must install the patch on each machine in the cluster.
No messages can be processed during the patch installation.


To install the MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3.13 patch:

  1. Stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services. You must stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services before installing the patch.
  2. Close the MAILsweeper Console and any other programs running in MMC consoles, such as Performance Monitor.
  3. Ensure that the Windows Event Viewer is not running.
  4. Rename the file FML14.DLL to FML14.DLL.OLD, the file MOF14.DLL to MOF14.DLL.OLD, and the file PFM14.DLL to PFM14.DLL.OLD.
  5. Copy the updated program files FML14.DLL, MOF14.DLL and PFM14.DLL supplied with this patch into the MAILsweeper Program folder.
  6. Check the version number of these program files to ensure that the version number matches that listed in Component update.
  7. Double click the Tech14_13.reg file to apply the product version number change.
  8. Open the MAILsweeper Console.
  9. Start the MAILsweeper for SMTP Receiver, Security, and Delivery services.

Removing the patch

If you experience problems after installing MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3.13 (Technology Update Version 1.4.13), you can remove the patch. You are recommended to stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services before removing the patch. Please note that no messages can be processed during the patch removal.


Note: If you are running a distributed deployment of MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must remove the patch from each machine in the cluster.

To remove the 4.3.13 patch:

  1. Close the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console and any other programs running in MMC consoles, such as Performance Monitor.
  2. Ensure that the Windows Event Viewer is not running.
  3. Navigate to the folder where you saved your backup versions of the files to be updated (see Program Component updates).
  4. Rename the file FML14.DLL.OLD to FML14.DLL, the file MOF14.DLL.OLD to MOF14.DLL, and the file PFM14.DLL.OLD to PFM14.DLL.
  5. Copy these renamed files into the MAILsweeper program folder (by default, C:\Program Files\MAILsweeper for SMTP\Program), overwriting the new patch files.
  6. Open the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console.
  7. Start the MAILsweeper for SMTP Receiver, Security, and Delivery services.
