Hardware prerequisites

The minimum hardware you need to install a CS MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3 Service Pack 2 host in a stand-alone deployment, or the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP server in a distributed deployment, is listed in Table 1. The requirements for other computers in a distributed deployment depend upon the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3 components you install.

Software prerequisites

The minimum software you need to install the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3 Service Pack 2 host in a stand-alone deployment, or the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP server in a distributed deployment, is listed in Table 2. The requirements for other computers in a distributed deployment depend upon the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3 components you install.

Adobe PDF IFilter v5.0 Required for extracting text from PDF files during text analysis.

PDF IFilter is available from the Adobe website, http://www.adobe.com/.

Antivirus tools user's choice Required for antivirus scanning. For a list of supported tools see the antivirus tools listed on the website, http://www.mimesweeper.com/.
Microsoft CDO for Windows Version 2.0 Required for SMTP alerts.

Microsoft CDO is included in the standard Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 operating systems.

Microsoft Data Access (MDAC) for Windows Version 2.6 or 2.7 Required by CS MAILsweeper to manage message areas.

Version 2.7 included on the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP CD-ROM.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or later Microsoft Internet Explorer is included in the standard Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 operating systems.
Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Version 1.2 or 2.0 Use the version installed with your Microsoft Windows operating system. MMC Version 1.2 is included in Microsoft Windows 2000, and MMC Version 2.0 is included in Windows 2003.
Microsoft messaging software   Windows Messaging Alerter is now replaced with the SMTP Alerter.
Operating system (one of the following):
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional ‡
  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server *

v5.0 with a minimum of Service Pack 4 (for Windows 2000 operating systems)

‡ Microsoft Windows XP Professional is supported only for remote manager installations (that is, only the MAILsweeper Management snap-in is installed). This enables remote management of CS MAILsweeper message areas located on the CS MAILsweeper host machine.

* If you are planning a distributed deployment of CS MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must install either Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Microsoft Windows 2003 Server is not supported in distributed deployments of CS MAILsweeper for SMTP.

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service   Required for MAILsweeper Manager.
SNMP service   Required for SNMP Alerters only. If required, this service must be installed separately on Windows 2000 operating systems. It is installed automatically with Windows 2003 operating systems.
TCP/IP including a host and domain name and a Domain Name System (DNS) server entry Check the Network Identification tab in the System Properties dialog box in Windows.
