MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir

for CS MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3 Service Pack 2


You can integrate third-party antivirus tools with CS MAILsweeperTM for SMTP. This document provides information on the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir, which integrates CS MAILsweeper for SMTP with AntiVir MAILsweeper.

About the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir

The MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir, supplied by Clearswift Limited, integrates CS MAILsweeper for SMTP with the AntiVir MAILsweeper antivirus software, supplied by H+BEDV.

To use the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir, you must:

  1. Install the AntiVir MAILsweeper third-party antivirus software on your PC.
  2. Install the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir on your PC.
  3. Create a MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir in CS MAILsweeper for SMTP.

You can uninstall a MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir if required.

Installing the AntiVir MAILsweeper third-party antivirus software

You must install the AntiVir MAILsweeper software and a valid license on your PC.

To install the AntiVir MAILsweeper:

  1. Obtain the AntiVir MAILsweeper third-party antivirus software.
  2. Follow the supplier's installation instructions.

To install a license for the AntiVir MAILsweeper:

  1. Obtain an AntiVir MAILsweeper license from H+BEDV.
  2. Place the license file in the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP program folder on your PC (usually, C:\Program Files\MAILsweeper for SMTP\Program\).

Installing the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir

You can install the MIMEsweeper scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir either during or after installing CS MAILsweeper for SMTP. For more information about installing the scenario during CS MAILsweeper for SMTP installation, see the CS MAILsweeper for SMTP Reference Revision 2.2a.

To install the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir after CS MAILsweeper for SMTP has been installed:

  1. Close the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console.
  2. In Windows Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select MAILsweeper for SMTP, then Change.
  4. On the Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for MAILsweeper for SMTP page, click Next.
  5. On the Program Maintenance page, select Modify, then click Next.
  6. On the Custom Setup page, expand MAILsweeper for SMTP, then Anti-Virus Scenarios.

    A red cross on an icon for an Anti-Virus scenario indicates that the scenario is not currently installed on the local hard drive.

  7. Click the H+BEDV AntiVir icon and select one of the options from the drop-down menu:

    If you select one of the options to install this feature, the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir will be installed on the local hard drive.

    If you select This feature will not be available, a red cross is displayed on the icon for H+BEDV AntiVir, and the scenario will not be installed.

  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Ready to Modify the Program page, click Install.
  10. On the Installshield Wizard Completed page, click Finish.

When you next restart the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console, H+BEDV AntiVir is displayed in the list of available scenarios.

Creating a MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir in CS MAILsweeper for SMTP

To create a new MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir in CS MAILsweeper for SMTP:

  1. In the MAILsweeper for SMTP Policy snap-in, expand the Policies folder and then the scenario folder in which you want to create the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir.

    As with all CS MAILsweeper for SMTP scenarios, you can position it anywhere in the scenario folder hierarchy. If you want to scan both incoming and outgoing messages for potential threats, create the scenario in the root Scenarios folder.

  2. On the Action menu, point to New, then click H+BEDV AntiVir. The New H+BEDV AntiVir Wizard starts.
  3. Complete the wizard pages.

    Each wizard page describes the information it requires. If you need more information on any configuration options in a wizard page, click the Help button.

  4. In the MAILsweeper for SMTP Management snap-in, select the Services folder then stop and restart the Security service.

Uninstalling the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir

You can remove any instances of the MIMEsweeper Scenario for H+BEDV in CS MAILsweeper for SMTP. You can save any existing instances before removing them if required.

To remove a MIMEsweeper scenario for H+BEDV AntiVir in CS MAILsweeper for SMTP:

  1. Close the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console.
  2. In Windows Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select MAILsweeper for SMTP, then Change.
  4. On the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for MAILsweeper for SMTP page, click Next.
  5. On the Program Maintenance page, select Modify, then click Next.
  6. On the Custom Setup page, expand MAILsweeper for SMTP, then Anti-Virus Scenarios.
  7. Click the H+BEDV AntiVir icon and from the drop-down menu select This feature will not be available.

    A red cross is displayed on the icon for H+BEDV AntiVir.

  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Ready to Modify the Program page, leave Yes, please backup my current configuration into <location> selected if you wish to save the configured MIMEsweeper scenarios for H+BEDV AntiVir before removing them, or clear the option if you do not.
  10. Click Install.
  11. On the Installshield Wizard Completed page, click Finish.
