Installing the patch

Before installing this patch, ensure that you have read the Prerequisites section of this ReadMe.

Notes:
  • If you are running a distributed deployment of MAILsweeper for SMTP, you must install the patch on each machine in the cluster. For further details, please contact your normal support provider.
  • No messages can be processed while the patch is being installed.
  • Prior to a re-installation of the patch, rename the old patch backup folder, which by default is: C:\Program Files\MAILsweeper for SMTP\Program\MAILsweeper for SMTP v4.3_20.
(On MIMEsweeper for Exchange systems this is C:\Program Files\MIMEsweeper for Exchange\Program\MAILsweeper for SMTP v4.3_20.)
For example, you could rename the folder MAILsweeper for SMTP v4.3_20_old. This ensures that the installer program creates a completely new backup folder. Otherwise certain aspects of the backup folder could reflect the system at the time of the first installation rather than at the re-installation, which might cause a subsequent rollback failure.

To install the MAILsweeper for SMTP 4.3.20 patch:

  1. Stop the MAILsweeper for SMTP services and close the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console.
  2. Disable all anti-virus tools on the machine.
  3. Close the Windows Event Viewer if it is open.
  4. Close down REMOTEmanager, if it is installed.
  5. If you are using MAILsweeper's Personal Message Manager (PMM) software:
  6. Run MSW4320.exe from your patch installation media.
  7. Re-enable the anti-virus tools you disabled in step 2.
  8. Open the MAILsweeper for SMTP Console and restart the MAILsweeper for SMTP services.

If the installer experiences problems, it will roll back to the version that was installed on your machine before you installed this patch. If you experience any other problems, please contact your normal support provider.
